On a conceptual basis, I understand the idea of charging larger parties an automatic tip (or gratuity) at a restaraunt. I mean, if the server is taking care of the family from hell there isn't much time to work other tables, so the odds are good the tip won't match the effort. However, where I draw the line is what is an "excessive" group. This last Friday wifey, boy, and I tried a different Mexican restaurant not far from our house that we've heard good things about. On the menu it stated "parties of 6 or more will be automatically have a 15% gratuity added." Parties of SIX? SIX people is difficult for a server to handle? That's a single table. Beatdown, I understand once you start moving tables together, but six is a kick in the shins.
